The story takes place in Norway in the 19th century, where rumors of vampires are spreading. A silver-eyed girl named named Novem appears with a mysterious purpose.[ANN] Note: The second word of the title refers to a Prussian vampire-like legend that shares its name with the Red-backed Shrike—a kind of bird—in German.
